Gateway question

i recently got a gateway computer, it has less than 512mb of Ram and i was wondering if i put 1g in it, would that make it much faster or does the speed also depend on the CPU or anything else?

ps. it is sdram

what do you use the computer for? whats the cpu you have in it? if you dont use it for anything other than net surfing or word processing than dont worry bout it. but if you do a little bit of gaming, put another 512 in.

depending on what your doing, memory can make all the difference. pretty much today 512 is the minimum.

if you computer seems to do a lot of hard drive thrashing when you open a program or switch between programs, then get another 512. this could indicate that your computer is using the swap file more than it should.
