Gateway Tower and Monitor Issues

Well, I've tried plugging in the monitor and the Gateway tower, but nothing comes up on the monitor, not even the loading screen or BIOS. The monitor works just fine because I've plugged it into my laptop. Also tried a different graphics card, but that didn't work either.

Well I decided to try and use an old router we have (laptop, router, and tower shown in attached image) as a Layer 3 switch, no luck in connecting to the router through my laptop for some odd reason even though it's sitting right on the tower and it won't connect via Ethernet cable either.

Major help please.

do we know if the desktop pc and router actually work?

since you're powering on your computer and getting no visual, even with a seperate graphics card that sounds like mobo failure. especially since you've tested your monitor

router could be faulty too, its fairly common for them to pooch out. do you know if it works with other computers either wired or wirelessly?

Well, when I plugged everything in to the router, the two lights came on. Also, the motor home is powered by a cord that plugs into the circuit breaker in the house. The monitor works just fine when connected to my laptop and I was in the RV when I plugged the monitor my laptop. An IT tech at my school suggested I take the BIOS battery out and put it back in, if that doesn't work , to try finding a PCI video card instead of the AGP one that is already in it.

Do a static discharge on thr board as well.

disconnect the power cable, remove ram and hold the power button for about 10 seconds. but back together, any luck?

I thought you said you tested it with a different video card already, i feel like this is either static or a mobo failure. it looks from the picture like the unit does power on so i cant blame your power supply either.

as for the router, even if the lights come on, it doesnt mean anyones home. routers die all the time. if it wont connect to any other computer that pretty much nails it. can you test that?

Idk what I'm supposed to test. Anyway, "I thought you said you tested it with a different video card already" I did and that card didn't work.

How do I do:

"Do a static discharge on thr board as well"

"disconnect the power cable, remove ram and hold the power button for about 10 seconds. but back together, any luck?" What will that do?

"as for the router, even if the lights come on, it doesnt mean anyones home. routers die all the time. if it wont connect to any other computer that pretty much nails it. can you test that?"

How do I do that?

right, so you've tested two different video cards in the unit and you know the monitor works, so obviously replacing these parts is not going to solve your problem, which is why i found it strange that you wanted to try yet another video card in the unit?

those instructions ARE the static discharge.. if there is static on your motherboard your machine will power on but it wont boot with any visual or anything. attempting to clear the board of all power and static can sometimes fix this issue, so do it.

connect to the internet through the router with a different computer. if no computers are able to connect to it, try to reset the router (there should be a button on the back of the router for reset, you may need a paperclip). if resetting the router doesnt work then your router may be pooched

Dead router, will try that static discharge thing tomorrow, and thanks for all the advice you've given me so far.

Will update tomorrow on how it works.
