Gateway wont run on AC Power

I got home from work yesterday to realize my Gateway laptop would only run on battery power. When the power chord is plugged in the computer shows no signs of AC Power, the battery will not charge either.

Any suggestions on what the problem may be? I'm guessing something with the power connector on the motherboard? If thats the case any ideas on how much it would cost to have it fixed?

Thanks

how do you know it is not the ac charger. Take the notebook to a place that repairs notebooks and see if they will plug in a power supply while you wait.

power

Are you sure that the outlet your plugged into is working? Could it be that a breaker or a GFI outlet tripped? I will assume that you've tried plugging your laptop into different outlets

Look at your charging cord, is it frayed or damaged in any way? Is the connection loose where you plug the cord into the computer?

Also a big help for us would be to know exactly what computer you have, that way we can see if there are issues with your model.

Its hard to determine the location of the problem with so little info.

If you have a voltage tester you can check the voltage output of the charger. That way you can see if its putting the correct amount of power. I have a few different kinds, but my favorite is Sperry.

(If you know how to use a volt tester, great. If you dont know how to use one, then I'd suggest that you dont try to learn by practicing on your computer.)

It might be that there is dirt or debris in/on the connections. Clean the connections and see if it works.

Are you using an aftermarket charger or the one that came with the computer?
