Hey anyone

My computer has decided to start crashing at demanding games i was wondering if anyone could help.

The problem is that whenever i play a demanding game the following occurs:

The screen flashes multicoloured static-like image at me for a second then the screen goes blank and the sound cutts out.
I cant press the re-start button or the screen (and I think the computer itself) stays blank, I have to turn the power off to the computer to get it to boot up.

If it helps at all, I had this problem for half-life when i put everything on max. The computer didnt struggle at all, but the same error occured

When i truned the resoloution down, the problem seemed to dissapear.
The Sims dosent have this problem eather.

Tiberium wars and company of heros does seem to however. And its whats makeing me think why demanding games cause this issue (although the computer doesent seem to be pushed in anyway, and the processor seems at a normal temp)

If it helps, My motherbord is an Assus P5P800-SE
My Card and is an Innone 6800GT
I have 1.5 Gb of ram
a prescot 3 ghz pentium 4

oh and one more thing. In my drivers list the geforce is regestered as being insetred into the PCI-1 slot when it is an APGx8 slot.

and also I recently updated my drivers (which seemed to make the problems worse)

i would be really really greatfull if anyone could help.

Thanks for reading

Nick

one more thing

The screen itself says "no imput received" and then goes black untill i turn off the power and reboot

Of course it is. It wont play current games all that well, but for the popular games like Doom, Far Cry, FEAR, and stuff like that, its still a very good card. My 6800 played FEAR pretty good on high settings, it wouldnt do the max settings very smooth but it still looked good.

The 6800s were awsome cards of their day, and i think they lasted quite a while in the gaming field.

Damn i miss my 6800! But i still havent bought another PSU to complete my old computer, stupid AGP.

have you used coolbits to oc the card if you have then revert to normal clock speeds, secondly remove the card and clean of the dust then reseat it making sure its in all the way , thirdly remember to put the power molex on at the back of the card , after you have done that uninstall the drivers and download and install the latest driver and see if that works if it makes no diffrence try uninstalling the drivers again and using an older driver. also check the temp of the card when it starts to go funny and also check the cpu temp because prescott cpus are also prone to overheating and that could be the problem.

Thanks for all your suggestion!

Before i try all of them in their ranking of cheepest and easiest to most expensive and most difficult i just ahave one more thing to add/ask

On C&C3 if i keep everything else on max but turn pixle shadeing off I can play for an hour or more before it crashes. Does this sound like the cards fault or drivers fault?

P.S.
How do i check if power supply in insufficient?
