GeForce 7600GS

I just bought a nVIDIA GeForce 7600GS 512MB DDR2 PCIe. I used to have an ATI Radeon X300/X550 128MB

I got it because I wanted better graphics when playing F.E.A.R. Well The graphics were a little better but not by much. I spent $180.00 at Best Buy for the card and am now taking it back for something else.

The ATI was around 29fps and the nVIDIA was around 35fps. I was able to choose the maximum setting in FEAR with the nVIDIA graphics card but it was still very choppy. I am looking for a card that is not choppy when I play the game.

It gets very choppy when there is a lot of shooting going on. If you guys have any ideas please let me know. I am going to get a different card but this time I am going to write down what they have and maybe you all could tell me which one would be best for this game.

When I g what should I look for? I am trying to stay under $250.00.

Thanks!

First off, what are the other specs of your computer? (processor, RAM, etc)

It sounds like it could be a bottleneck with another component, which would be causing you not to notice much of an improvement.

You can't play FEAR on maximum setting with 7600GS !!, so just turn some settings down. Also, if you have AA enabled then turn it off.

And my friend you need at least 7900GT to play fear on max setting

You payed $180 for 7600GS !!!, you can get 7900GS Extreme edition for just $159.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150202

And you can get 7600GT for $109.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130062

Both of these cards are cheaper and much better than 7600GS

I strongly agree, buy at least a 7600 GT, it should let you play smoothly in medium settings, i have it with a gig of ram and a sempron 3200+ and it plays fine Oblivion on high detail...

Ok, I returned the nVIDIA card and now have a ATI Radeon X1600PRO. It is better than the other card. It is still a little choppy on the maximum setting but nothing like the other. The guy there said he has the same card and plays Prey with it. I dont know how good that looks but so far this card is working great. It is a lot heavier than the other card to. Dont know if that matters.

Oh and when I returned the nVIDIA card the price jumped up to $229.00 This one was $205.00. Best Buy has to be the most expensive place to buy anything.

Sorry, but you hardly upgraded at all :o. Next time, don't listen to the salesman. Better yet...buy one online. You'll spend a whole lot less money for a better card.

OMG

The x1600PRO is worse then the 7600GS!!

You can buy the x1600PRO on www.newegg.com for around $80, and the 7600GS for around $90. I seriously think you should return that and buy a card from Newegg.

Well okay. I was using a giftcard. I didnt see my card on the Newegg site but a lot of very similar one at a lot less. It wasnt the salesmen that sold me but they dont have a big selection and this one was in the price range. I think I am going to reurn it. They do have a X1950 Pro there.

Here is the card I got for around the same price. http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=2826994

I will keep looking. I did try that program 3DMark06. That was a bad idea. My office is a lot warmer now for some reason....

Anyways thanks for the help. My games do play a whole lot better though. but damn if it doesnt get hot in here. My house is about 65 degrees and my office is about 85
