No, that psu can't power it at all, it probably wouldn't even turn on
ha that's a fib! I'm running a 450W PSU with this...
Athlon 64 3000+ OCed (which means it's drawing more power)
ABIT AT8 32X CrossFire
7900GS
2GB of RAM (OCed, so it draws more power)
WD Hard Drive
About 4 fans
My PSU is crap too! It runs just fine. a 430W Thermaltake will run that just fine. Might be close to the draw limit, but it'll run it.
qft, u cant justify the amount of money for such a small gain in performance
save for an 8800 gts and a 500-600 watt psu
8800GTS 320MB is THE best bang for the buck. The Foxconn one is OCed and cost the same amount, great performance out of it too! He would probably get more gain out of the system from a RAM upgrade, assuming he sticks with the 7600GT or whatever it was. The 8800GTS even on 1GB of RAM will run circles around systems with 2GB of RAM. If you want a big performace boost in, say, games, get the video card, if you want general use in applications, get RAM.
So? it doesn't matter how much wattage it has but rather how efficient it's and the amps it has on the 12v@ rail/rails and there are some cards that ask for more than 20amps minimum
True, his 8600GTS would run it, but if he gets the 8800GTS he might need an upgrade in the PSU. It depends, but whatever card he wants that PSU would more then likely run it without to much struggle. Pending if he overclocks, because OCing draws more power to the components, other then that it would work just fine. If it was anything less then 430W I'd say he needed an upgrade. But given a budget I'd probably have to say that the first thing he needs to upgrade is NOT the PSU. That can be done later down the road.
