The 2 cards are very similar and will perform mostly about the same, your looking at probly a 10-20 FPS difference in certain games between the two..

Ive always been loyal to Nvidia. i currently have a 6970 being my first ever ati card. and i actually like it a lot more than my last card which was an 8800GT

its all on personal preference

would u also happen to know of a website where i could find how much power these cards consume and what kind of heat they generate under a heavy load?

I would agree. Personally I would choose the Radeon, but that's just me. Some others prefer Nvidia but I never really dealt with them to know if they are truly better from personal experience. Actually if you have a little bit more money, I would check out a 6850. They are about the same price with a pretty good performance boost.

pretty simple question
*snip*
They both cost the same and i was just wondering if there were any major differences

Most likely its going to come down to what do you want to do with the cards. If you plan on running games with physx, then you'll want the nvidia. If you plan on running eyefinity, then you'll want the amd. If you want CUDA, nvidia. If you want tesselation, amd. Etc.

As for actual performance in most games. As stated above by Jc61990, they'll be very similar. I can't however find any actual GPU performance charts comparing the cards to confirm this.

I'm an fan of ATI, and recommend that.

Off of ATI's Website: 500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for AMD CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)

From Nvidia's website: Thermal and Power Specs:
Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 104 C
Maximum Graphics Card Power (W) 160 W
Minimum Recommended System Power (W) 450 W

The GTX 465 is the faster card. The GTX 465 is a older cutdown GF100. If you could spend about 20 buck more go for a GTX 460 or a HD 6850
