Geforce GTX260 Problem

Hello,

i recently purchased a second hand gtx260 video card from a local tech shop and ive been having some trouble with it. I have been having frequent crashes, the pc doesnt freeze, only the screen turns a random colour and im unable to regain any type of visual.

It seems to be happening when the graphics card moves even 1mm to to either side, i try to combat this by screwing it tight in place, but for some reason this stops the card from booting (due to the way its seated i would imagine)

Im trying to decide if this a problem with the PCIx slot in my pc, or the graphics card itself, and any help would be appreciated!

Cheers

Take the card out and put it in one more time. Screw it down and put the PCIe power connector/s in. Did you uninstall your older cards video driver then install the new one for your card? What kind of power supply do you have?

thanks for your reply,

the power supply is a 650W alpine. Ive tried the other things you've mentioned to no avail

You should be okay on the power supply. As far as I can tell the card alone recommends at least 221watts. Have you tried all available drivers for your 260? Perhaps the ones you're using are leaving your video unstable, and you'll especially have problems if you're trying to overclock at all with this driver. Try any other available drivers and if they don't work, it's possible you have a bad card.

Well you really should look into changing your PSU sometime soon, that's a pretty poor PSU if I'm honest. Get a Corsair CX600 or an XFX, Antec or Seasonic unit.

Have you definitely plugged all the additional power connectors into the card? Are you having to use molex-power adapters? Higher-end cards require one or two 6-pin power connectors, and some very high-end ones require one 6-pin and one 8-pin power connector, but I doubt the 260 needs 8-pin power, probably 2x 6-pin power. Make sure they're plugged in.
