I recently purchased this in a bundle complete with an AMD+2 5200 dual core, 2GB 667 ram as a replacment for my old faithful PCChips M810l. I reloaded XP using the dvdrom cdRW drive np, then when all seemed ok I connected a flying lead from the back of the optical drive to a 4pin header, this flying lead used to be connected on my old board also. When I swithcd on smoke came from the case and this flying lead just about melted, luckily I seemed to have switched off in time as the puter has worked ok since, is this lead not needed? what was it for? The board header was marked CD-in and the plug was the same pitch so it had to go there? any ideas pls.

Are you sure you connected the lead to the right socket? It may have been the wrong kind. If it's working anyway, don't bother with it.
