GeForce9800GTX+ through my TV? anyone else have problems?

Hello there here is my situation:

I buy a 9800GTX+ for my computer with the intentions to hook it up to my LCD TV, a LG22S4D, only to find apperently this is not supported in the drivers for this graphics card. This is just poor, I have a three year old Dell Inspiron 6400, which when hooked up to the same television works flawlessly. What happens when I hook my 9800GTX+ to the TV?

- Black screen where you can hear windows loading but nothing is displayed.
- Then when it does boot you get red dots/lines across the screen that follow the pattern of the screen.

Before anyone says anything, it is not a faulty graphics card, I have a five year old Dell monitor, that I plugged it into and it works perfectly apart from the fact its five years old and 14 inches unsure.gif It is not the cables, I was using a HDMI-DVI cable and this works perfectly fine when I plug it into my PS3. So it is without a doubt the NVIDIA drivers!

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get this working? It is very frustrating!

It isn't a faulty graphics card. It is just a bad initial resolution/refresh rate setting on the card. Try hooking up a monitor to the card as well and booting the desktop. Once there, set up your television as the second monitor in a dual view setup. Then set the TV to it's maximum resolution.

After that, you can set your TV as the primary monitor and un-plug the other monitor. Some other folks have had issues with monitors/tvs like this refusing to show a low-resolution picture like the 640x400 BIOS/DOS boot screen. I am rather surprised that it won't come up at all. That leads me more to an improper refresh rate setting.

First noob post sorry if this is the wrong place to do it but yea. branching from that dual view question. Mine is I have a 19 inch LCD t.v and i want the best picture i can get. Although it doesn't have hdmi. just component. My 7300Gt card has dvi and vga. I've seen cords that go from dvi to component but have no sound. so first if i get the picture to work can i just use my computer speakers plugged into my mobo? Second question is what is the best possible setup( in means of resolution, heard best was 800 x 600 ) i can get from using this lcd as a monitor.

Welcome to the forum Nemesis. :)

For something like this I would recommend starting your own thread as it differs enough from the original post. This could be considered hijacking the thread and is frowned upon.

That being said:

1) Yes, you can use your computer speakers. You could also connect your computer audio to your television. Note: DVI connections by default, do not carry audio. DVI's evolved sibling HDMI does.

2) The best resolution you can get on your television depends on its native resolution. If it is a standard 480p monitor, your best resolution would be 640x480. What model TV is it?
