Hello everyone.

I just have a few simple questions that i have been wondering about computers.

-1-first, what does the Ram do in a computer? (like 512 MG memory...) i have notice that the higher you have, the better it is.

-2- What are GHz (gigahearts) ??? what are they for?

-3- Which procecer is better? AMD sempron? intel Pentium 4? intel inside? AMDathlon? etc...

-4- Is it true that a light Scribe in the computer isn't good? that its overheat?

-5- Is it true that the new Mcantoch computer with dual core ain't good?

- 6- Is it true Shrinking DVDs ain't good at all? that it takes lost of qualty away?

- 7- Will it be good to add a 32 MG videocard form my old computer into my new one (its a 512 MB HP Pavillon).

Thays all for now! :eek: I know its alot of questions, but i have been hearing lots of stuff, and i ownder what is true! :confused:

1. Temp. storage, where programs are loaded. Info is also stored there because the processor can only do so much at once. And it's MB(MegaBytes)

2. GHz is just a measure of how fast the processor can...process things. For the most part, the faster the better...things are changing though so that doesn't always apply.

3. Each processor has their ups and downs. Right now, most people would probably go with the AMDs... For gamming, AMD all the way!

4. Light Scribe allows you to make black and white lables on special disks. That's about all I know... To me, and as I've heard, it's a waste of money.

5. I have an older G4 based Mac, so I don't know. I've heard good stuff about the duel core macs though...

6. To make something smaller, you have to take something away :P

7. Again, MB, not MG :P And that might help, but of course it all depends on the video card's chipset! If it's some old junky card, it probably wouldn't help at all.
 
Thx alot...Sorry about the MG mistake, i dont know why i wrote that! lol i kne wit was a MB :S

So you think that my Video Card on the 7 year old comp will not really help? If i try, i jsut need to put it in the slot, and what then? try to fing the new hardwaer? or what. I do want to see, cause my old comp is too slow, and we never use it, so i thought maybe i could make some ood out of it.

Im sure the video card in your new computer is much better than your 7 year old card so I wouldnt even bother trying.
 
would it be possible to find out the make and model of the old and new card, look for labels or even take a photo, so The_Other_One and wasisnt can give you the best option

the old one is a S3trio64V2/DX (does this make sense, thats what written on it)
The one ne wi dont know. The computer is coming back at the company, will get it tommorrow, all i can tell you is that it worlks fine, 128 MB,(512 MB ram)
so is it worth it? also, the computer is under warranty, will adding it void the garrantie?

Actually, technically, the GHz of a processor is the frequency it runs on. It isn't a measure of speed. :P

I have my HAM (Amateur) Radio license, so I know a lot about these kinds of things, like hertz, etc. :)
 
in response to the graphics card, no its not worth putting in and I doubt it will go in anyway. The graphics card is an older PCI version which generally aint used now. I would epxect your current system to be AGP or possibly PCI express (take a look at the guide in the video cards section for details). Leave the one you currently have in, it will be more than up to the job
 
Well the reason i want to put it in, is because we have that computer, and we never use it, so i might as well make good use of it. Right?
and plus, what about the RAM, its 32 MB, small but should be worth it.
Also, on our new pc, we have lots of PCi slots, and i think it should fit.
 
yeah but you've most likely got at least 32mb integrated if not a seperate AGP card installed on the other computer which will be far better than the 32mb pci card from the old comuputer
 
So, to you, doing it will be completly worthless? better let the old PC do nothing??? Cause even if it helps a litt;e bit, its worth it! no? Well lets see what other people think:

whats in your current system in terms of graphics? does it have a card or is it intergrated, and whats the memory amount?
 
Well, all that i can tell you right now is that i have a 512 Mb, 128 shared video Card, i will tell you more tonight, we will pick the computer back from the company. its pretty new, and works really good. (i could play games with all the otions up) But i will ell you more tonight.

you have 128mb integrated graphics, it will completely destroy the 32mb pci card without a doubt, the old card is obselete and would do absolutely nothing in the system
 
Well i don't know if i know what intergrat means, but let me make myselF clearer.
Thats the videoCard that came with the PC, their wa sno updates on it, (RAM, video card etc), But i really dont want to say so much about it because i don't know! So i will tell you everything tonight!

integrated (shared video card) is a video card that is a part of the motherboard. It shares the memory that is part of your computer to help it run.

A seperate card is better, but only a seperate AGP card or PCI express card (depending on which clot your motherboard has)

A normal PCI seperate card would not improve upon the integrated (shared video) that your computer currently has, hence why there would be no reason to install your old graphics card in this system

So our computer is an 512 MB ram, and it had a shared videoCard of 128 MB, is that you mean? (i am trying to understand the videocard world!)

so its worthless anyway. Worthless in the way that it will have NO differences, only filling up a slot, or worthless llike you wont really see the difference?
