General Question

I just bought my brother a really cheaper computer.

I told them to build it for my bro because I was too afraid to build it myself.

When we pick up the system, I have to install the Floppy, IDE DVD-Writer and the Graphic Card myself (PCI-E 6600GT)

I noe how to install the graphic card. However, I have a problem about installing the IDE DVD-Writer and Floppy.

BTW, the mobo i ordered is Gigabyte DS3

Questions:

1. What kind of cables would I need?
2. If i used the wrong cable would it burn my motherboard and the parts?
3. Does DS3 even have an IDE port, If it does, how many drives can it take?

1. You use an 80-pin IDE cable. It should come with any motherboard.

2. The only other cable that will fit is a 40-pin IDE cable, and if you use that then you simply wont be able to use the hard drive, but nothing will be damaged.

3. The DS3 has one IDE port, which is capable of supporting two IDE devices. If you need more, you can buy an IDE expansion card.

So if i use the IDE DVD-Writer, I can't USE THE FLOPPY?

No, there is a spot for your IDE devices (CD Drive) and a spot for your floppy. He was saying that you cannot plug your floppy into the spot for the IDE devices.
