Generic RAID PCI Controller Card

My mobo currently uses SATA optical drives, and there are no ide expansion slots. I guess I'm from the old school. I want to add an optical device that is IDE. Would a Generic RAID PCI Controller Card like the one I found on pricewatch.com enable me to add my old IDE CDWriter and HDD to my newer SATA compatible PC.

Are there any potential incompatibility or performance issues I should know about before I spend the 10 bucks for the PCI card?

TY

Should work fine! I bought a RAID card, the seller told me it wouldn't work on vista. the drivers on the disc he gave me did not, but the drivers from windows update did. keep note of that.

Ok, I'm curious. Will all RAID controller cards support JBOD? I only want to add add an IDE HDD and DVD-ROM drive. No actual RAID array necessary or wanted.

I've been doing some research and I'm unclear if all or most PCI IDE RAID Controller cards actually support DVD ROM Drives. Any help appreciated.

Thanks again!

I have used mine in an older mahcine for that. It's just an PCI to IDE adapter. I used it with a cd drive and hard drive.

you can get a sata to usb controller if thats what your looking for. maybe a little slower but does the job.
