How can microsoft know that I am using a not genuine Win copy ?
Pls tell me, how I can install wmp11 without purchase a new Win ?
Thanks so much.

It sounds like you're running an older Windows (maybe 9x?) and want to be able to run the newer programs that only work with 2000/XP? In that case you'd have to upgrade, there isn't really any way to work around it. It's not that it's not a genuine copy, it's just not compatible.

Yeah, and if you are running XP that someone else bought for you (like me) sometimes it ends up not being 'genuine' or something. I hate that..

There are a few ways to verify older versions of Windows at the following.

"Q: How do I know if my Windows software is genuine?
A: Microsoft offers an online validation process that allows you to verify that your copy of Windows is genuine. You will be prompted to validate your copy of Windows if you request a genuine Windows download from the Microsoft Download Center. Alternatively, you can validate your copy of Windows by visiting the How to Tell site." http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#Question3Label

Well, it seems like you already know that your going to have problems installing wmp11. My advice would be to get a genuine copy. If it wasn't what I have thought.. your grammer made it come out the wrong way.

You really can't. Unless, like you said, you purchase a genuine copy.

I don't run anything but a full version bought genuine. If you want a free OS then download a Linux distro and have some fun learning how to run it. But then you will have to buy some software to burn iso image downloads to bootable disks in order to install them. Of course you could go with a Live for cd distro. The point being that if it's not Microsoft why should Microsoft support it?

well free software to burn the disks aint much of a problem

burn iso is free from softpedia.com

and it does bootable image burns

the question he should really be asking himself is, is it worth learning how to use the linux os when he might put a non genuine copy of xp after .

Apparently you missed the point. The idea was certainly not to do both but to run a genuine copy of an OS.
(I know you weren't paying attention.)

Ring microsoft with the number they supply when it says that your copy is genuine and it will ask you to enter the key code which appears on your screen, so once you have done that it will either gove you a new code to activate, or it will trannsfer you to a microsoft representative, which all you then have to do it read the number out on your screen to the guy on the phone, then if they are happy (as in the check to see how many different systems it is installed on) then they will reactivate your key.

I know this because when i had problems with my PC, i had to install windows so many times that when i tried to re-activate it was displaying a message saying my activation limit had been exceeded. So they guy on the phon just asked how pcs it was on, and i said just the one which he could obviosuly check and re activated it with no problems.

Good luck!

"Windows Media Player 11 is designed to work with all versions of Windows XP Service Pack 2 including Windows XP Home Edition N and Windows XP Professional N."

Unless you're running XP SP2 or Vista, you're SOL, apparently. Even I can't use WMP 11.

You do not have to pay over $100. I paid $85 for an OEM copy of SP1. SP2 can be had even cheaper, in the $75-80 range.
