Get Adobe Photoshop Free?

I was messing around on photoshop.com, and I have decided that I really like adobe Photoshop. I was wondering if there was a version out there that is free. Not like a cracked one or anything, but a version meant to be free. Or just some similar program maybe? I do NOT want anything illegal going on here.

No, no such thing as a Free Lunch and Adobe are super bastards with their DRM and with all the crap that goes into their apps. At best you can get a student discount. Free alternative is GIMP.

I just downloaded it. In photoshop, there is the retouch feature. Is there anything similar with GIMP?

I don't really do graphic design so I am the wrong person to ask that question. I just know that GIMP is a free alternative that does not have all the features of photoshop, but is at least free.
