My Vista pc running EarthLink software is now toast. I did take out the Hd. I now have a windows 8 PC. When I connected my old HD to my new pc with a USB to SATA cable, I was able to open up the drive and see the different programs and files. However, I was not able to open any of them. when I was prompted to OPEN WITH......I chose an app or a program, but none of them worked. Do I need to hook it up to a Vista PC? I'm trying to recover Emails that I had saved in archives. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to hit the old HD with my nine iron! thanks, P

What software did you use for email in Vista? Usually you have to export emails and then import into the new software. But if you can't boot into that drive anymore on original pc then it may be a lost cause.

If it's Windows Mail you should be able to connect the drive to the new computer and import your mail from the folder the mail is stored under.

It was earthlink total access software. The earthlink email client. Emails were downloaded from the server and stored on the pc. For some reason,my backup did not include those files. They were stored in folders along with my inbox and sent mail folders. I hope this helps you help me. Thanks again, P
