Wife got a new computer for $700 Canadian from Staples
They want $130 to extend the warranty from 1 year to 2 years
$200 to have it go to 3 years
I told my wife for that kind of money we should be able to take our chances.
I have heard that the warrenty service is real bad from Staples (months)
The laptop is a Acer Aspire 3620
I know that we picked the cheapest computer we could find and a person gets what they pay for but I am in school right now so we cant afford the higher models.
I am quite handy at fixing our desk top models when they break down but I have never had a laptop apart. I figure it should not be too much harder and if the new laptop broke down in a year and a bit (just out of warranty) then I should be able to figure it out.
Do you think we should get the warrenty?
Do these devices have a record of break down of just over a year??
Thanks

I think the 1 year should be fine. Many will have a new computer by 3 years from now anyways. If you think $200 is a good deal for the warranty (that's more than 25% of the cost), then go for it. I wouldn't go for an extra warranty unless it's really expensive, like $1600 or higher. But of course, everyone's opinion of "expensive" is different, so it's up to you. As for Acer quality, aside to some of the hollow feel of it, I'd vouch for them being a pretty well built machine and quite sturdy too.

Thanks for the reply
Right now it is expensive
When I finish school in June and get back to work it will be cheap.
Its all relative I guess.
We did end up opting out of the warranty
I think it is a deal at that price. add $130 or $200 and there go some of the savings.
