I am looking forward to getting a new Benq FP222W monitor. I currently have a 128MB Radeon X300 graphics card. If I were to use this monitor at 1440x900 or higher, would I need a new graphics card? If so, which would you recommend?

I don't do much gaming, only old games such as Warcraft III.

The first thing to do with any card is look over what resolutions it will support. Usually a higher end model comes up by gamers mainly. I know a few people that run 22" models at 800x600 or 1024x768.

your video card would work just fine, im running 3 monitors and a projector, 3 on 1024/768 and another on 1280/1024 on a PNY Geforce 6200...

According to the information seen at newegg the MSI HD 2600XT used here supports upto Max Resolution 2560 x 1600. This is on one of ATI-AMD's newer DX10 compatible models. For an AGP board you would have to look at a card like the 2600 Pro.

The one thing to know now is the current driver support is for the X1xxx line of cards and newer.

Your probably fine. I'm running a 22" at 1680x1050 on a radeon 9200 se. As long as you don't try and play recent games or watch Hi-res movies, you'll be fine.

The video card can run it fine at a high resolution, however if you want to play newer games at those high resolutions you may need a higher-end card.

You run them with the desktop set to the hogher resolutions but not too many games go over 1280x1024. Fear sees that only in Vista while seeing 1280x960 in XP. Using the "same as desktop settings" option if available then requires a higher end model for the extra support.

Nearly all games will display at 1600 x 1200 but you got to use a resolution that gives good performance newer games support the odd resolutions for widescreen.

In most newer games the same as desktop option works due the game's own hardware detection process while ingame settings only go so high. This is why something like the Steam engine will point a need to download the latest drivers for your video card being connected online to their servers.
