getting an amd

so i was finally convinced to get amd, since itll be better for me since im very into gaming since its somewhat of a profession to some degree. So i was considering the x2 4800 or the fx 57 but then i heard the performance increase with an fx57 wont be that great since its not dual core and that spending 800 for a fx57 isnt worth the money. Then i heard ppl saying i should get a opteron 175 instead of a x2 4800. i dont know which one to get. dont think about budget in this, just give me your opinions. so opteron 175, x2 4800, fx 57 (i guess we cud throw x2 4400) even tho its a downgrade. thanks alot!

Personally, I wouldn't go for the FX-57. It's a single cored processor, so won't perform anywhere near as well with multithreaded apps/games. The Opteron 175 is a great overclocking processor (and cheaper than the 4800+ I think?), but i'd give it a miss if you don't intend to overclock. The X2 4800+ would be my pick if you don't want to overclock, but unless you have a huge budget the extra money between that and a 4200/4400/4600 might be better spent elsewhere.

how much could i overclock a opteron 175 and after i overclocked how it would it be compared to a overclocked x2 4800?

Pushing the 175 to a faster speed than a stock FX-60 isn't difficult. There are never any guarantees, but i'd conservatively say 2.6-2.7Ghz, with decent cooling, a good mobo, and perhaps most importantly, good RAM. You could probably push the X2 4800+ faster, but it's also far more expensive
