I guess thats a fair price (and a damn nice one if its in CAD but im assuming its USD) ... if thats a 'serious' laptop then you should be ok but if you intend to do gaming on it you should seriously reconsider a more gaming oriented system :)

Avertec 3200 HPze4800 compared.

In comparing the Avertec 3200 with the HP ze4800 you forgot one characteristic:

WEIGHT. The Avertec weighs 4.3 lbs vs. the ze4800s 7.3 lbs.

I bought an Avertec 3200 about a month ago (August) for my kid to take to high school. I wanted something light that could fit into a backpack. It is the best value lightweight laptop on the market. I did not want to spend 2K or 3K for a light-weight laptop that could get trashed.

The keyboard feels a little strange, but otherwise so far so good. Only other additional defects of note are, no parallel port and the advertized battery life is not as long as those systems built using the Intel Centrino chip.

For myself, the Avertec 6100 and tablet PC versions look interesting, but I have not tried them.

Im confused... are you looking for a light laptop or a heavy one?

Most people dont need them anymore ... if your really do then a USB port replicator is probably a better route :)
