Getting Around School Blocking Software

My school has really annoying [internet] blocking software...pretty much any web page that is relatively useful, is blocked. I have a ubuntu 7.04 live cd, and I'm thinking, couldn't I use this to get around the blocking software? (The software is installed on the computer/the school network)

I'm not talking about installing it, just running it. Any Ideas/Suggestions?
