getting files

ok, here is my situation:

my friend at school. has an 80GB ipod. on it, he has a bunch of awesome programs and movies that i would like on my computer at home. now, keep in mind that what i want is several GB. like 10-20GB.

what i'd was wondering:

is there anyway to get those files from his ipod to my computer without borrowing his ipod? keep in mind he has dial-up internet...the only thing i can think of is setting up a network between our computers.

Yeah. You can set up an ftp thing with software. Or do the easiest thing and break into his house and rob his ipod and hard drive.

If you have the two computers next to each other the network could work... But if not, send him an extra HD, or a spare, and tell him to put it on there..

you can't do this thing with a dial up internet coz it would be more costly because you have to transfer more data. you could bye another ipod for this thing. if u have established lan then u can transfer data from his pc.........

By 'setting up a network' I assume you are asking if there is a way you can transfer it online, not an actual network with his computer next to yours. If so, 10-20GB is an absolutely ridiculous amount to transfer of a dial up connection.

Assuming you could utilize the full 56k of his connection it would still take over 50 hours to transfer. Given that in reality the transfer would be more like 10kBps, it would take like 12 days or more of constant transfer.

Some ideas:

It could be burned on 3-5 Dvds, (or 15-30 CDs).
You could go over to his house with your computer, or him over to yours.
If you had a laptop you could do it at school.
If you can get an external hard drive you could use a school computer to copy the files.
If you are both computer savvy you could let him take home your hard drive or another internal hard drive to transfer the files.
