I'm so confused and up in the air on this it's driving me crazy, and I need it by the weekend. Here are my only 2 options. They are the only 2 I can get due to warranty guidelines. So what is better of these two? I have searched all over ( on my phone ) and just can't decide :( Thank u so much

Dell studio xps 16 p8600 CPU ( model # x1640-026b )
4 gb ddr3
500 gb HD ( 5400 rpm )
ati radeon 3670 (512 mb )
2 USB
blu Ray

or

You can view this one on best buys site

Asus g51vx p7350 CPU
4 gb DDR 2 ( I believe , possibly 3 )
320 gb HD (7200 rpm )
nvidia geforce 260m ( 1 gb )
4 USB
dual layer drive

I won't be playing alot of games but I will use my tv as a monitor for games or everyday Internet often. Does the video card or processor matter in that sense? It's a 52" samsung 750

Anything ? :(. Just would like some advice befor I choose and if having a better card or CPU would be better in the long run and some suggestions wouldn't Hurt. It's hard now cuz of the whole windows 7 , best buy has zero laptops

1.) P8600 is 0.4 GHz faster than P7350, however, I believe P7350 is fast enough for normal applications.

2) 260m is a lot better than 3670. In worst case, you can upgrade the cpu, but you can never upgtade on GPU on laptop. And I am not sure how 3670 run on 52@ TV...

3) I prefer Asus than Dell

The only features on Dell would possibly be Blu-ray drive

And as far as the speed thing goes. I thought it was a big jump Yea it's only .4 but were only talking about a 2 MHz processor. If it was 20,30 MHz , then yea I could see .4 meaning nothing. But on this small of a scale that could equal almost 25% faster for tge p8600.

Am I wrong?

Only if you are going to do something that is taxing the processor. If you are say, rendering pictures in photoshop, sure the processor can make a difference. In basic every day usage, no it won't. If you are going to play games, well sure that may make a difference, but then again it depends on the game you are trying to play.

In my professional opinion Asus makes a better product over Dell, so the Asus is the better buy. Some people like Dells, and my bias opinion is, don't buy a Dell.

I guess I should explain a bit more. Clock speeds rarely have anything to do with performance these days. When manufacturers tried to increase clock speeds over 3Ghz they were finding that they over heated way too much. So, instead of just increasing clock speed they started adding multiple cores, more cache, more built in instruction sets and so forth. Clock speed of a processor does not determine it's performance. The difference between a 2.5 and 3 Ghz processor is not really that much, unless you are doing real processor intensive things.

Thank you for explaining that to me , in a way I could actually understand lol. I am not computer savvy by any means, so I'm sure when I get it I'll be back on here asking what to do with it. As far as removing bloatware and setting it up , what programs , av, etc etc.

But for now, wha wold you say about that laptop? descent for what it is?

Yes, unless bluray is a deal breaker for you. If you need blu ray you may want to look at a different model.

I am going out for the night now but will try to check back tomorrow if you reply.

Yea no problem , thank you for the advice. To everyone else too. The decision was hard because of windows 7 release , so noone has any computers in the store to play around with.

But you have made my decision and I think I will be very happy cuz eventho the Dell has a better CPU the asus has the nice gpu, 4 USB instead of 2 ; better cooling, backlit keyboard with number pad and a few other lil things. Once again I think I pcked the Dell first cuz it looked a lil more professional, and had the nice black gloss finish. God. I almost sounded like a woman there lol

also I have a ps3 and don't travel much so the br would be useless
