Getting new motherboard how to go about it

Hey guys i have traced my problem down to being the motherboard. It must be dead. I sold my RAM. I want to buy a new mobo on payday so how would i go about getting my computer up and going again? I still have the old motherboard. I know i need to transfer the fan over to the new board but is that it? I really just want to be able to plug the new board in and boot the computer up. Will i have to re-install windows if i get new RAM? I am not too good at working on computers so i would like to get some insight on putting a new mobo in.

Yes, i want to get the exact same one to make it more simple. Can i just get that Mobo and transfer the fan over and put new RAM in and boot it up?
What i am trying to eliminate here is having to re-do windows. Let me know what you guys think please.
Also i need ram. Would you guys suggest 2gb? I think that should be fine. I don't do anything crazy. Just music, internet, and video editing.

If you can find the same motherboard you will be fine. If you are doing heavy duty video editing then you might want to think about getting at least 3gb in dual channel(2x1g,2x512).

I am not sure actually. How would i be able to find out? All i know is it's a Asus p5nsli Pentium D. CPU.

I am not sure if i should even take on the task. My neighbor is the one who always worked on my computers but now he said he has no time anymore. I traced it down to being the motherboard being out. I tried a new PSU and even tried jumping the power button. You guys can read my thread about it but i am no computer geek. I have the whole computer minus a new Mobo and RAM.

Any help would be Greatly appreciated. I am not going to sell the HD so if i sell everything i wont get much. I would only be selling the PSU and video cards.
I am pretty lost on what to do. My luck is pretty bad so i bet if i get the new mobo and put it in it will not come on.

Look above the blue PCI-express slot for the video card. Do you see P5nsli in white letters above it?

Then follow that link I gave you from amazon and order the same board. Then its just a matter of moving all the hardware to the new motherboard and booting up and you'll be set to go.

ok thank you very much. So all i need to take off this motherboard is the fan and put the rest of the components like video cards and ram on the new board?
So the 29.00 one is the wrong one?
Thank you!
Jeff

The $29 one is fine. Whatever you had on the old motherboard needs to go on the new motherboard. This includes the processor, heatsink and fan, memory, any addin cards like video, sound, network cards. I sure hope you know what you are doing, because the way you talk, it doesn't sound like it. You may want to ask someone that is familiar with building computers to help you out.

I do not know computers too well. I took the entire computer apart with no problems. I just went slow and gentle so i did not break anything. I think i can get it all back together with no problems as well. How do i get the processor off the old board? I may end up needing help but my guy i know that works on computers is no longer available. I do not know who i can go to now. My only problem will be is when i get it all back together and it wont boot up. That's where i will be stuck.

You will need to clean the thermal compound off the processor and heatsink and will need to reapply new, use isopropyl alcohol and a rag/paper towel to clean it off. When reapplying the thermal paste you only want to drop about a pea size droplet on the processor and spread it evenly across the top of it with your finger. This will be the most critical step you will need to do, if this isn't done right then your processor may overheat and the mobo will shut down on you. If you don't have a tube of it already then you need to get one. The local computer repair store should carry tubes of it for sale. I do suggest finding someone or taking it to a repair shop and have them do this for you.
