Stay away from ultra, its an off brand just like rosewill and such. The corsair 400cx is probably the best out there in your price range, the OCZ units i would tend to stray away from unless you find a killer deal on them, otherwise there are usually better units available for the price.

I have no experience with the 400w from corsair, only their more powerful versions, but I like them a lot. They're pretty much what I use in all my builds.

Well I don't now about Rosewill being bad at least the "higher end" ones. Never had an issue on all my built. But yet again this went on systems that wore never push to the limits.

Check out my post number 8, I linked to the same PSU. Plus that tiger direct you just linked to is not the candadian site.

I thought you said his Deer power supply would be just fine.

Lets see what were your comments.

(That PSU will be fine for a 9600gso no problem.)

( See a super cheap junk 500w power supply would probably only have like a single 18a rail. Yours has two for a combined 31a, so it's actually not horrible. Probably close to the equivalent of what a good brand quality 400w PSU can handle. )

(Is it a cheap PSU? Sure. Is it the worst PSU out there that will explode with the super light load of a 9600gso? Not even close. Will it provide the power he needs? Absolutely)

(And I hardly think a power supply is overrated to the point where HALF load makes it pop. Give me a break.)

Solytech, Youngyear, ATNG...none are known for making a power supply that is even decent. Solytech and Youngyear struggle to keep voltages and ripple within atx specifications, and won't provide their rated specs under load. ATNG built units generally will keep voltages and will provide close to their rated specs, but have ripple through the roof and units built by all three OEM's are built with excessively cheap components that arent going to last long(off brand capacitors for instance).

The stickers on DEER units are completely useless, at best circumstances you'll get 200W from that unit, and even then it will not be clean power whatsoever(ripple will most likely be out of ATX specs). You don't even get a proper bridge rectifier, just a cheap four diode treatment. Deer=L&C Power=Allied, in fact some of their units that supposedly had two 12v rails in fact only had one 12v rail that wouldnt even handle what one of the rails on the sticker claimed it would.

Thought is was ironic the way 87dtna was all for him using a Deer power supply and even claimed is was as good as a quality lower wattage power supply. Then jump on the bandwagon in this thread.

Umm, WTF did you not read where I linked to this very corsair power supply in that thread BEFORE he ever posted this thread? So up yours.

How witty. I'm still confident that the deer would be fine, but he seems hell bent on getting a new one now because of you guys saying so....so I figured I'll atleast recommend a good one.

OP- You want to ship me your power supply? I'll cover all shipping costs.

Stranglehold you want to bet me that it will handle my I7 860 and an 8800gts 512mb both at full load? Thats a hell of a lot more wattage than an Athlon 64 and a 9600gso could ever pull. Lets put some money on it chickenshit.
