Getting New PSU

I just wanted to throw this out there, and recommend against getting a modular power supply. Not only are they more expensive, but less reliable. The modular connectors have a better chance of creating a short and/or becoming loose over time causing problems. I had a modular power supply a few years ago, and to be honest it didnt save me that much space in terms of cables.

I would strongly recommend a non-modular regular molex power supply as you will get more bang for your buck and long term reliability.

I wouldn't buy that. I have modular PSU too, never have problem. Freedom replace cable. More clean of wire.

And how can they short and loose easily? I wouldn't buy it either. There is no way that modular can have short or loose since it have stronge port.

The more parts/connections you have the more chance there is for something to go wrong. And with a modular power supply you have a wire coming from the circuit board, going to a plug which plugs into another plug going to another plug that plugs into the device. Plenty of places in between for one of those connections to come loose over time, and I have had that happen. With a standard, there is a wire coming from the circuit board straight to the plug that connects to the device. Only 2 possible places for any problem to occur making it less likely. Im not saying that he will definitely have problems with a modular, Im saying its more likely to over a standard.

I was just saying, you will get more bang for your buck with a non-modular. Just think of it as "style over substance".

What kind of modular power supply do you have?

Just be careful when routing the cables when using a modular power supply that you don't pull the cables too tight, otherwise as G80 is saying they may come out of the power supply itself and then you'll have to plug it back in again.

Just make sure all the cables are plugged in tightly at both ends and there isn't too much stress on the cables and you'll be good to go. :)

Ultra PSUs aren't the greatest anyway really. There are better brands out there, and I'm sure over the past 7 years the technology has improved massively.

Off topic but I love NCIX Tech Tips and Linus! :good: Honestly that's how I learned about computer stuff, just by watching his videos. :)

Yup, me to. Wish he uploaded vids more often. I perfer Linustechtips over NCIXcom, but ovbiously, they are made to be different channels.

Yeah LinusTechTips is more of a personal channel for his epic unboxing videos and NCIX Tech Tips usually explains hardware and stuff and they do benchmarks. :) Good channels, and Linus is certainly a knowledgeable guy. We should get him to join CF! ;)

Yes one of the first. Now see, think. That was a brand new idea by not the best brand. Now, 7 years later, you have refined idea, and made by some great brands.

I know my stuff well enough to not need to watch that, g80.

Just thought I would try to help you get more high quality parts for your money! Good luck to you!

Yup, Linus and Elric from motherboardsorg, my favorite youtubers. Along with TimetoLivecustoms, in a close 3rd.

Ah yes!! Elric never blinks though, kinda odd, and he speaks really quickly. And the guy who runs TimeToLiveCustoms is from the UK! :D He's pretty good, but Linus owns all! :P
