hey,

my sisters computer is infected with this spyware called adware.virtumonde. i looked it up and from what i gather, it causes popups and the usual crap like that. its really pissing me off because i think i have gotten rid of the spyware, but i cant delete the registry keys. here is a hjt log file from my sis's comp, so if someone out there can help me get rid of these annoyances, i would greatly apprecitate it. please help if ther are any other nasty bugs too.

thanks,
shupola:)

Fortunately you don't have to post too many logs since there is a specific removal tool available for this particular adbot. http://www.f-secure.com/sw-desc/virtumonde.shtml The full description and instructions for removal are given there.

In the meantime you can dump a few things found by pressing the fix button for the following items.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1DAEFCB9-06C8-47c6-8F20-3FB54B244DAA} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\lmrivwlq.dll (file missing)

some nasty ones here to add to that one.

There are a few online scanners as well as some free removers you could try in order to locate where any trojan is located. What most likely happened was that with current registry values created being removed the adware sits idle until it can either create another startup or download another "bug" that will do the same thing. I add a few links here so you can try some other types of removers. Another thing to try would be a registry cleaner to remove any reference to the adware.

Let's get some useless entries in the registry cleaned out with a non instrusive freeware called RegCleaner found at http://www.majorgeeks.com/RegCleaner_d460.html

From there Housecall by Trend Micro has helped a few others lately with the online system scanner found at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Grisoft has released their latest free version of AVG 7.5 antivirus and AVG Anti-Spyware Free both available at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-spyware-free

Another free trojan remover is the Ewido trojan scanner you can download free at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ Grisoft now owns Ewido explaining the new renamed Ewido going now by AVG.

Microsoft finally released the finished version of their Windows Defender which is also free to download at http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Between these tools you will have some pretty hefty firepower to get your system cleaned up. :D
