Getting rid of McAfee?

I just bought a new Dell PC and it came with McAfee virus software pre-installed. Question. How do you get it off!? It says that I can't delete the folders containing McAfee because it's currently in use. Help? :o

I'm going to replace McAfee with AVG anti-virus plus the Windows Firewall. I had a bad experience with McAfee in the past.

Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs
you should see all of the programs that are installed on your computer. And also, I would recommend not just using the Windows Firewall I would recommend using a program like Zonealarm (thats what I use).

Ok, well McAfee isn't listed on the Add/Remove Programs list, but McAfee Uninstaller is. Problem is, I can't find McAfee Uninstaller on my PC even after running a search. Help please.

IT should be in the add remove programs......Look in the mcaffe folder the unstiallers should be there.

If all else fails run msconfig

Start run MSCONFIG ( assuming its windows XP, if not, then psot again and i will tell you how to do iot on another OS)

then click on Duagnostic Startup, then restyart your computer then try and delete the folder....it wont be in use then.

OR PREFERABY

Run MSCONFIG then in the Startup or the Services, find ANYTHING related to it and unchek it, this way ti doesn;t start up on start up, and it shoudn't affect your comptuer. and you can use another AV.

really? when i was trying 2 get it off a friends computer, i had 2 use a tool, maybe on some versions you dont need a tool?

Ok, I'll try that.

Just reboot into safemode and remove it instead of stopping all the running processes. You might have to do a search to find all folders and remove them...when they preinstall these things sometimes they dont install them in program files.
