I think I worded that correctly. Basically, I have an 80GB hd that I use just to store stuff. It says the total size is 74.5GB. How can I get use of the other 5.5GB?
The drive is 80GB as in 80,000,000,000 bytes, 80GB in windows is actually 85,899,345,920 bytes. It's misleading but all hard drive manufacturers do it. So 74.5GB is actually 80GB according to the company that makes it
you know there has to be a false advertising claim there. Think of all the missing GBs in the world.
Im sure HDD manufacturers have a constructive obligation to measure in standard windows units . Another lawsuit for me to start!!!....ill deal with it right after i finishing suing my old university for mismanaging my investment and allowing the uni to drop down the league tables grrr
You don't lose anything. The hard disk manufacturers are correctly stating their sizes in GB (decimal).
Windows (and other software) are counting the disks storage in GiB (binary) while they are using the term GB. That's wrong. That's like saying: "Number of inches: 8 cm."
