Getting rid of partition for system restore?

I think I worded that correctly. Basically, I have an 80GB hd that I use just to store stuff. It says the total size is 74.5GB. How can I get use of the other 5.5GB?

The drive is 80GB as in 80,000,000,000 bytes, 80GB in windows is actually 85,899,345,920 bytes. It's misleading but all hard drive manufacturers do it. So 74.5GB is actually 80GB according to the company that makes it

you know there has to be a false advertising claim there. Think of all the missing GBs in the world.
Im sure HDD manufacturers have a constructive obligation to measure in standard windows units :). Another lawsuit for me to start!!!....ill deal with it right after i finishing suing my old university for mismanaging my investment and allowing the uni to drop down the league tables grrr

WD got sued a while back, I think they settled and everyone got some free $30 WD software or something

You think thats bad!

I Have a 3 x 320 GB SataII Seagate Hard Drives,

Out of the "320" GB They Claim it has, i lose something like 23.8 GB!

I have 3 x 320GB Hard Drives

I LOSE APPROXIMATELY 71.4GB!!

Thats more of a loss than some peoples Whole Harddrives!

You don't lose anything. The hard disk manufacturers are correctly stating their sizes in GB (decimal).

Windows (and other software) are counting the disks storage in GiB (binary) while they are using the term GB. That's wrong. That's like saying: "Number of inches: 8 cm."

So if you are gonna sure anybody, sue Microsoft.

GiB Sounds Fun.

I really don't see why they cant just agree on the same Format...

it's a real pain in the A$$
