For some reason there is a safely remove hardware icon in the system tray and its talking about my hard drive...how do i fix this problem or get rid of the icon?

i had the same problem with a friends laptop (dvd instead of hdd). it isnt a problem, so long as your hdd is working, but in properties you can hide the icon.

i think its for SATA drives... i actually plugged one in while the computer was on (a secondary drive) and it just read it like it would a flash drive... plug n play.
however, if you unplug a secondary drive it actually restarts the computer.

this is for SATA only from my experience.

It is normal for them to show up like that. I have heard several people uninstalling the driver and letting the windows driver pick them up, and then they go away from the taskbar.

You can set the icon to autohide by right clicking on the taskbar -> Properties -> Customize (Hide inactive icons must be ticked). Find the Safely Remove Icon and select Always Hide.

the only problem ive had anywhere near these ones is when i had a Kodak C330 camera connected for transferring the photos, works fine, disconnect it and the safely remove hardware icon stays there, even after a restart it would still be there, lol, the onyl way to get rid of it was to repeatadly plug in then unplug the camera. Thinking about it now i should have just hidden it, lol.
