My 8800gt is running at around 79c after a few rounds with cod4 in a closed case....

is this a bad thing? should I look for a cooling solution before summer comes??

I have a small case with a side and rear fan, what kind of cooling can you guys recommend for me?? that is...if i need any at all:confused:

80*c is hot, but not blistering. I don't know if this temp is normal for the GT, but as long as it doesn't get hotter, 80*c won't damage the card, and should be fine. If you want to try to bring the temp down, make sure the case and fans are clear of dust, see if the airflow to the card is being blocked, by say a PCI card.. You could invest in better case fans or VGA cooling, maybe with some AS5. You could turn off the automatic fan control in the nvidia control panel and jjack the speed up to %100.

You could open up the case and point a housefan at the card, that'll work, though it'll be loud and look weird. :P

replacing my fans sounds like the cheapest and easiest solution, mine run around 1200rpm, is that considered bad?

could i get a fan made just for the card?

thanks, sorry about the noob questions:o

The speed is dependent on the size of the cooler, an 80mm case fan can move much faster than 1200RPM, while an 120mm doesn't necessarily need to.. It's not the best way to gauge the effectiveness of fans anyway, an 120mm fan @ 1000RPM could be a very effective cooler, if only in the way it moves the air.

VGA cooling solution.. I wouldn't really bother, 80*c doesn't sound that bad under full load, but if you're sure, go for it. Replace the stock thermal paste with arctic silver 5 while you're at it.

My card gets over 60C while playing Battlefield 2. It also uses a lot less power and is slower and worse and whatever. And, the room temp here is 65F, and it's in a big case with a fan pointed at it. It's also got a big Zalman heatsink and fan.

Your graphics card is your hottest component and they're rated over 100C. After that it's up to everyone's speculation and what you're personally comfortable with. If I had that card I'd be happy with 80C.

What's the idle temp?
