Ghosting laptop HDD to my desktop HDD (help, please)

Hey there, I would like to know if what I want to do is possible and the issues that may come. I've got a laptop (320GB total in RAID 0) with Vista and a desktop (500GB total in RAID 0) with XP (32 bit SP2). What I want to do is partition the HDD in my desktop so that I can dual-boot it with a ghosted version of my laptop HDD.

I'm not really a fan of the laptop anymore, and I would really like Vista on my desktop. I've got more than enough space to do what I want. I'm just not really sure about how Vista will react on a completely different system with different components. Also, would this be acceptable by Microsoft (i.e. legal)?

Thanx in advance!

Booting the desktop off of the ghosted lappy HDD would certainly not work. There are so many hardware differences, that there is simply no way that Vista would be able to load. Also, this would be illegal, as you are only allowed to have Vista installed on one machine per serial number. Also, when computers are sold with OSs already installed, you can only legally use that Vista serial number on the computer that it was originally installed on, so even if you copied to your desktop and deleted it from your lappy, you would still be violating the Microsoft terms of usage.
