Ghosting question

I think I know what ghosting is - but not quite sure.

When I grab an Icon and move my mouse really quick - there's a light trailer that shadows it. It only happens when I move the item really quick.

So far, I've not seen any of this ghosting in daily use - beyond that fast dragging motion. I've played games and watched a few movies on the monitor with no problem. I'm going to get a TV tuner card in the next month - so not sure how that will work - but I anticipate that will be fine too.

Is what I'm describing - ghosting?

Is it something that I should be aware of when I shop for my 2nd monitor to replace my old 15" low resolution secondary monitor.

My current main Monitor that I saw the ghosting on has a 2ms refresh time ASUS 226H. Everything else is great - picture quality - etc. I'm just trying to beef up my knowledge and understanding here.

No, Ghosting is another term for re-imaging a computer. What you described may be another term for ghosting, but to my understanding Ghosting is just re-imaging a computer from an image or something you have previously created.

You are correct Jamin43, what you describe is called ghosting. It is an issue with almost all LCD screens to some extent, higher quality monitors don't ghost as much. It is completely normal, if it bothers you, sometimes turning the brightness down on your monitor helps but usually it isn't too much of a bother.

D@RKSID3 - for future reference, there are many things that can be defined as "ghosting"

Shaking the mouse real fast results in "ghosting" even on CRTs, I'm not sure if it's the computer, monitor or your brain, but something isnt processing the mouse cursor moving fast enough

LCD ghosting results from the switching speed of the LCD (the time it takes for a pixel to turn on/off or change color, also called the response time) being slow enough to be noticeable. It is very evident on old LCDs but technologies have improved ghosting. LCDs that use TN panels usually have the highest response time (at the expense of color accuracy usually.) Ghosting is not usually a problem to many people unless they play fast-paced games. If you a have PSP, you can see a perfect example of ghosting since the PSP screen is really bad about ghosting.
