Gig Switch For LAN

I am looking for a moderately priced Gig Switch to use at LAN parties.

I wanted to go with Three 5 - 8 ports, for for both rooms and stuff, but I was told it would slow down the Second and Third switch. So, would one 16 - 24 Port Switch be fine? Or maybe a 16 and 5 port?



I usually have under/around 30 people per LAN.

I use these at work for imaging over the network. Not bad, can image 20 machines with a 10 gig image in about 25ish minutes.

I wish I had more of those, I was imaging about 10-12 MacBook's at a time with our 10/100 24-port SMC switch, lets just say I had the image run overnight and I swapped them out in the morning.

Jumping Jesus Catfish! What were you using to image the macbooks? That is unacceptable in my book. How big was the image?

It takes about 2 hours or so for the image to complete, it's just a waste of my time to sit there with it so I do it overnight. It's funny what we use, but we have a MacMini running OS X 10.5.4 server with OD, NetBoot, and AFP. I had it connected to the gig uplink port on the switch, but it still takes forever! The image is 12GB BTW.

I was able to snag a 24-port 100/1000 HP ProCurve from the middle school, so hopefully that will make things faster.

It is the Mac Mini's NIC. I ran into the same problem with a G5 desktop. I have a document in the works for imaging mass computers and when I finish it I will send you a copy. I have all sorts of data.

Not when you do 10+ at a time

It is the Mac Mini's NIC. I ran into the same problem with a G5 desktop. I have a document in the works for imaging mass computers and when I finish it I will send you a copy. I have all sorts of data.
