Gigabyte Board

Hi, I just built a new desktop today but havent got around to turning it on yet. The board I got (Gigabyte ga-n680sli) has the standard 24pin socket but then their are another 2 sockets on the right of the board that provide power to the CPU. Im a bit confused by the manual it states:

If you use a power supply that provides a 24-pin ATX or 2x4 pin ATX 12V power connector, please remove the small cover on the power connector on
the motherboard before plugging in the power cord; otherwise, please do not remove it.

I just dont want to risk wrecking the board by overloading it with too much power. Do I plug the 4 pin plugs into each socket or not?

If your PSU has a 2x4 plug (usually 2 2x2s that can be linked together, they will have only yellow and black wires in them) then you can remove the cover and plug them both in. If it only has 1 2x2 connector, then plug it in but leave the cover on.
 
Thats great thanks for letting me know. Wasnt sure what the cover on the socket was about.

Just curious to know, does not having the extra 2x2 cable plugged in not make the system more unstable.

It shouldn't. If you are using a pentium D you'll probably want a PSU with the extra 2x2 just because they can draw a lot of power. A core 2 duo is fine with only 1 2x2 plug. A core 2 quad is probably OK as well but you can't hurt anything by plugging the 2nd in if your PSU has it.
