Everest says the effective clock is 533
i want to enable the 800 mode
i got a new processor
2.8 1mb\800 prescott
instead of
2.8 512\533 northwood

any help on how to enable the 800 and DDR 400
the RAM bus is reduced to 333 also

are you sure that the board supports 800? just because the CPU can do it doesn't mean the board can!

i checked that it was set to 100 Mhz and the net frequency was 2100 as Everest shows
i made it 133 Mhz which made the processor net frequency 21*133=2800
as everest shows
but the RAM frequency is still 333
i want to enable 400

are there any jumpers on the motherboard they look like they might change the RAM speed? also in the bios there should be a ram frequincy setting aswell

there is a RAM frequency setting but i cant change it
it depends on the CPU host frequency
it went to ddr 400 when i overclocked to 160*21 that's about 3.4
is that too much for the processor ??

3.4 is a decent OC for a 2.8, and im guessing will shorten its life dramaticly and will be pumping out a hell of alot of heat now! It should be, but are you sure that the ram in DDR 400? You may also want to do some asking about to see if you system is fully compatable with all hardware...

i dont know how to say this
but it turns out the processor is 2.8 prescott 1mb cache\533 system bus
and that was the problem with the DDR 400
thanks for ur help anyway

but now i have a question will it show a difference in performance
i mean how much is it better than the northwood listed above

well the prescott is better than northwood, but the 533 BUS will slow it down a bit..take whatever performance u get on 800 and take 300. But so long as you dont do much gaming (juding by ur graphics card id guess not) you wont notice much differance.
