Hey. First off is the gigabyte P35 DS3 a newer board than the gigabyte P35 DS3R? Secondly are there difference between the two except those raid functions?

And also, would you recommend me to have the P35 DS3 as I do not need raid and is it a good gaming mobo?
 
I couldn't find just a P35-DS3, I found P35-DS3R, P35-DS3P P35-DS3L.

If you mean P35C DS3 and P35C DS3R then the difference is one has an ICH9R and the other has an ICH9. And yes the difference is there RAID controller built into the ICH9R.

I'm going to assume the PATA (IDE) controller on these boards is the usual JMicron chip so both will probably support RAID.

Since you said you don't need RAID and I don't know for sure if both support it I'd just get the P35C DS3 unless the DS3R is the same price then you might as well go for more features :)
