Gigabyte Mobo Question

Good Afternoon all,

I have was wondering if someone could help me with this issue I’m having,

I have a Gigabyte GA-8S661-FXM-775 mobo (don’t laugh) and I’m in the process of upgrading a bit, I’ve been told that due to it being a 775 board I can fit any 775 chip in there provided that the front bus speed (fsb) is the same on this board its 800FSb.

So I was going to purchase the Core 2 Duo E470 which is a 800FSb processor however on the gigabyte website the CPU list it appears like the E series are not compatible with the board.

Therefore if someone has this board or knows much about it could they let me know if the E470 is compatible with it?

Also where can I find the vendor recommended ram for this board?

Thanks in advanced to everyone that maybe be able to help

Whatever is on that cpu support list is what is compatible with the motherboard. It's a very old chipset, it won't be compatible with the newer processors.

Thanks for the reply Johnb35. I realise now that this Mobo is a pile of ****, however do you think that a bios update would sort it out and allow me to use the E470 processor

If there was a bios update that supported that processor it would show in the cpu support list. So the answer to your question is no.

Theres a problem with Gigabyte motherboards isnt there to do with overclocking?
Ive heard they reset to defaults in the BIOS every time you restart or something

No problems with mine.

You may be thinking of the auto reset, after 3 boot loops if the system wont POST the dualBIOS will autoreset so that you don't have to clear the cmos.
