Gigabyte p35-ds3l and an Intel e8500

I have an old build that needs a new cpu. I was using the q6600 in the build until it quit on me but I am thinking about buying a e8400 or e8500. I would like to find out if either of these would work with the above motherboard before I buy one. The only reason I ask is the q6600 is 65nm tech and the e8000 series are 45nm tech.

Once I buy a new processor for the old build, I am either going to sell it or give it to my Dad. Dad does not do any gaming at all except maybe flash games, mainly just office type work, internet. I figured the e8500 would be perfect for him. He is currently using a Dell 2400 with a P4 processor so it would be a big upgrade.

If I decide to sell it, which processor would make it sell easier? I would assume the q6600 but not sure.
 
E8400 or E8500 will work just fine on that Gigabyte motherboard, but I don´t recommend upgrading it because q6600 is as good as E8400.

q6600 would surely make it sell easier because of it´s 4 cores
 
Actually the rig I am talking about used to be my rig until I built a new one. I started having major problems with it. In the process of trying to figure it out, I replaced almost every piece of hardware and nothing helped. I even took it to a couple different shops and one did not have any idea and the other said the cpu is bad. He said he has seen that before. The cpu is the only thing I did not replace. I am trying to decide if I want a e8000 series or another q6600. If I decide to sell it, it would probably sell easier with the q6600. But I may give it to my Dad and the only thing he does is office work, internet and music. I figured the e8500 would be a better choice for him. I have been thinking e8500 since it is cheaper than the q6600. Do you think it would be worth the higher price for the q6600?

If you buy it from newegg you really don't know what stepping you are getting until you get it, unless you buy it from a local source.
 
I will probably be buying it from ebay. But there is no way of telling at all even by the s-spec #? Just curious what stepping is better?
