gliches in FEAR/computer

i was playing FEAR today and i notices after playing for about 2 hours or less, that it started gliching a little (slowdown) and then the entire level that i was playing in went black except for my HUD and the current weapon i was holding. it was like i was playing in the dark or something. i reset the game, and when it loaded again it was the same way as when i left it, with some slowdown again and it was all black. i tried to launch a different game (doom3) and it played fine. so then i tried FEAR again and it was fine for about another 30-40 min, then i got slowdown and gliches again. so, i am running a amd athlon 64 3000+ cpu, asus k8n MB, corsair xms 512x2, and a radeon 9700 pro graphics card. what could be the cause of this. overheating with the graphics card i though, because i know i only run about 38-40C on the cpu during heavy load. any help would be appreciated.

is the 9700 directX 8? My friend has a nvidia that only supports up to dx 8 and he couldn't run it, even though I guess fear is supposed to support it, but then again the fact that it works for awhile is still weird

no, it supports dx9. i play a doom 3, FEAR, Half-Life2, and SWAT 4 on it. but i dont know why it gliches after a couple hours of gameplay.

Works fine on DX8 hardware. If you need to force DX8 shaders the options allow you to do so

try reinstalling the game.
if not then check vcard temps
EDIT: also try start>run>"dxdiag"
direct x diagnose
it'll diagnose a problem with direct X if there is one, and it'll tell you what version you're running too :)
