I've never used Outlook before but im interested to try.

I would want to make a new email account, such as Gmail

but are these two compatible?

How would I go about setting up my Gmail account into Outlook?

Should I just stick with AOL?

Thx

For one Outlook or Outlook Express will require a user name and password assigned by the ISP in order to see mail come into it. It has to be able to connect online. You then would import the Gmail account into OE to see mail retrieved from the online account.

You first create a new alias as a separate email address as you set it up. The reference here is to keep online accounts online and save OE for a few personal private contacts like family or close friends and leave the online accounts for diverting spam. Let the junk go to the free accounts and only give that address out to a few.Once your OE address is known to be active the junk keeps pouring in!

so not worth it? i do find aol is good... but after being a member for like 10 years, im thinking of giving it up

Once you have OE setup and give out that emaill address it can easily become a magnet for spam. Bringing in mail from a free account like Gmail would see any spam arriving there come into OE.

If you give out the Outlook address when registaring for hardware or software support on a new product you owuld be surprised at the other types of junk ads that suddenly start arriving. For spam blocking programs available they only allow the safe list that you keep in the Outlook or Outlook Express address book and may block any mail you try to import from an online account.

The advice is actually simple. When setting up OE use that strictly for private personal email to avoid any garbage and Keep the Gmail or another free online account to divert any spam there once you give that address out anywhere. The better free accounts like Gmail or seen at inbox.com provide a spam folder to separate your approved contact list from stray junk coming in.

alright, thanks a bunch for the advice. I think I might not give up on AOL just yet. They do have a spam blocker which does resort the spam. I didn't really give much thought to that.

Thanks

AOL sees a lot of adwares to note there. One thing I found when people added my OE address to their AOL accounts was strange mail suddenly coming in with files attached like some were once seen with viruses attached? But those were simply deleted on the spot at the time. Even many free services see better spam blocking over Hotmail!
