GNOME vs KDE

I am new to linux and wondering what the core differences between GNOME and KDE are. Which one has better functionality and which, if either, has more program support. Thanks.

There really are no pros or cons over functionality, just personal preference. Gnome is a more basic and minimalist desktop environment where KDE is more of a control panel and many different preference pane window environment.

Some people think Gnome is too simple and some people think KDE is too convoluted.

Technology wise, there is little advantage of running one over the other. It is really more about personal preference.

As tlarkin said, it's really more of a personal preference. KDE has been more unstable for me than Gnome, maybe that's just me though. :) Me, I'd go with Gnome.
