Go linux?

Hey i have windows xp professional and it came 2nd handed, Im so fed up with all the missing the files the first owner deleted since i get so many errors. So i dont realy want to buy anything so i looked into linux. And can i say Linux Unbutu looks so very very awsome. And it said you can order 3 cd's to install on your computer. So i orderd the trial one but it takesup to 10 weeks to be deliverd. Since theres so many files missing will it let me install a differnt server( linux )? and if i choose to install linux unbuto will windows xp still be on my system hogging up my little space? and on youtube i serached for Linux unbutu and saw some preety awsome videos. Were u can have 4 destops at once the windows wobble etc. Will the cd's have this newest version? will my craptacular computer crash and die? Or will it be in gods hands? ( if it is its going to hell, hes been a bad laptop, hehehe )

xp is not hogging any space, if you have a free partition,20gb+ you can install ubuntu on that, without touching xp

thats just a program, XGL/Compiz fusion composite window manager, nothing fancy to me

Linux requires it's own partition. It has a built in tool to resize your windows xp so that way you can dual boot with one hard drive. Linux is an awesome operating system, it just takes some getting used to. Think of it more as a mac then windows. Also you didnt order the trial, its the full version, hence it's free :P. The fancy windows is standard with ubuntu, no need to install anything!

@patrick - xgl is almost obsolete, ubuntu doesn't use xgl natively for the composite manager; it uses aiglx which allows that native xserver to run while aiglx layer "talks" to your video card (in a nut shell).

no, but there's an alternative for it on windows, it's a desktop manager, has 4 windows like linux, i once posted it, i forgot the name of the program...can't remember

Would installing Ubuntu alter my system in ANY way other than re-partitioning it??
Also, how can I make my computer dual boot on XP and Ubuntu?
 
It will alter the bootloader so that way you can choose ubuntu or xp, but thats it. All you need to dual boot is some unpartitioned space. If you dont or cant do that in windows then ubuntu has a built in partition editor called gparted.

Wow its awsome i have 4 destops at once, but it aint as good as the unbuto becasue sometimes my destop backround reverts to its default, when your zoomed out videos dont play, and when u zoom at u dont have 360 vision :(

But all in all its fully awsome, also its awsome
 
no ones hijacking your thread if someone need helps we help, and yes thats what you will get at most on windows if you want it that bad get a linux distro

is there anyway of making it when i close my windows to go all sparkly like on linux?
Also can i get compiz fusion on windowS?

Dam well i had to order linux unbutu from the internet since i dont have a cd burner to burn it onto 2 install, And i downloded lots of stardock products but some wont install says i dont have permisiion 2 ascess a file O? "shakes head"
