Going to RAID 0, format first?!?!?

My second hard drive should be here tomorrow and I'm going to put them in RAID 0 configuration. My question is:

Will I still get the RAID speeds without reinstalling WindowsXP and the rest of my software? Or should I just format and start over??

I don't see how an empty HD and a semi-full HD in RAID will speed up my processing times. I really don't want to format, but if that is whats necessary, I'll do it.

Also, I lost my CD-Key for WindowsXP (daughter ripped it off the side of my PC), where can I find this so I can write it down? Thanks for you help guys.

I'm pretty sure you can RAID them within Windows, and it will just split up the files. But i'm not sure how to do this.

And there are some programs out there that can scan your PC for the CD-Key, but again, i'm not sure of a program name.

It's not going to speed anything up whether you format or not, so just take the easiest route. RAID 0 is not only not a genuine RAID array, but it adds nothing but hassle to your rig. Make sure you back up your data on a regular basis, because when it crashes, and it will crash I promise you, you will lose everything.
