Hi, I'm going to college and looking for a laptop to buy...
and so I was first wondering which companies I should be looking at. I want a laptop that can last...so does anyone recommend companies or various models that have a good build quality?

Thanks! I appreciate your help!

well dell are very good with there products but also sony and acer are good to,

If you was going to get a laptop, it will last as long as you treat it well.

a laptop is a lot less knock resistant (dont react well to been treated like crap), and depending on the situation a drop on the floor will stop it from not working

Dell's have great deals on their Inspiron line of notebooks, they offer a wide range of options to fit your specific needs, but there not the most durable. If your looking for durability, look into the IBM Thinkpad line.

the toughbook would be ideal but its about £10k plus i think

We have both dells and thinkpads here. The dell is a nice quality finish but my Thinkpad is for work and gets quite a bit of abuse and has never let me down

It depends on the model, since they have ultra-compact models which are very thin and light.

Yes they are, they have great deals and are very reasonably price. But their thin plastic design isnt as durable as some of the IBM Thinkpad's.
