Well,.. Im still looking for a laptop.. and i found this one:

Toshiba 4600 Pro

Pentium 3 - 1.0GHz
256Mb RAM
10Gb Hdd
Cd drive/ 56k modem/ Lan
14.1" TFT screen

for 269 euro ( New btw)
I know,.. its not fast, but it's ok,.. also a bit few HD space,.. but that can be upgraded(later) if needed i think.

anyhow.. my question.. would it be a good laptop, so,.. does the PIII consume a lot of power? and would i be able to run Win Xp + Office 2003 on it without much of a problem?

the other option would be
HP Compaq NX9000

Intel C. 2.0GHz
256Mb RAM
30Gb HDD
DVD drive/56k modem/Lan
14" TFT for 339 euro
this is a lot more as you can see, and i'd rather stay under the 300 euro.

thx in advance,
C.

Are you sure it's new?Because it's a pretty old model...Make sure that at least the battery is new. Also with 256ram it could be slow for Windows XP,+Office 2003,but you can add more ram later I guess.

I would be overwhelmingly surprised if that Toshiba is new since it's got a P3 in it... (Unless it's been sitting in a box for about 4 years...)

To that end, I wouldn't trust that and instead go for the NX9000, definitely still needs a RAM upgrade, though.

yes, its new.. i can get it through the place im working now ( they sell laptops for PLC programmers,.. so they dont really need that much speed)
So,.. know absolutely sure its new,.. would it be a good buy?

maybe its not new... its just not used lol...
intel stopped manufacturing pentium 3's a long time ago im sure, maybe that laptop was just not built until recently...
but yea, i wouldnt get either of them... if you want something that doesnt use a lot of power get a lappy with a pentium m, core solo/duo, or a core 2 duo. that is to say, something with centrino mobile technology enabled.

centrino > anything else, when it comes to battery life at least.

I agree also with fade2green514.

For answer the question,as my experience
My old laptop is Toshiba Portege 7200 CT.
Specs are: Pentium 3 (800 Mhz) ; 128 RAM ; 64 VRAM ; 20 GB HDD
Can you think how slow it? But it can run Win XP SP 2 + windows XP well.
So I think that can run what your need well..
