Good Computer for the Price?

Hey everyone, just wondering if this is a good price for the following PC and what kind of performance I can except out of it:

Case - NZXT Tempest 210 Mid-Tower Gaming Case (Black Color)

Motherboard - [CrossFireX] ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AMD 970 Chipset CrossFireX Support DDR3 Socket AM3+ ATX w/ 7.1 Audio, GbLAN, USB3.0, SATA-III, RAID, 2 Gen2 PCIe X16, 2 PCIe X1 & 2 PCI (Pro OC Certified)

CPU - AMD FX-4100 3.60 GHz Quad-Core AM3+ CPU 4MB L2 Cache & Turbo Core Technology

I was debating whether or not upgrading to the FX-4170 4.20 GHz Quad-Core, not sure if it's even worth it.

Cooling - Asetek 510LC Liquid Cooling System 120MM Radiator & Fan (Enhanced Cooling Performance + Extreme Silent at 20dBA) (Single Standard 120MM Fan)

Ram - 8GB (4GBx2) DDR3/1866MHz Dual Channel Memory (Corsair XMS)

Video Card -AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB 16X PCIe 3.0 Video Card

HDD && SSD - 2TB (2TBx1) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD and 128GB Sandisk Sata III Boot Drive

PSU - 800 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Certified Power Supply - SLI/CrossFireX Ready
I realize it's a rather iffy PSU, but it's so much less expensive and yet still 80+.

Then it comes with standard optical/sound drives. Also comes with a Razer mouse/keyboard and 600 Watts PMPO Subwoofer Stereo Speakers.

The total price on this PC would be: $642 Thanks in advance!

this is ibuypower isn't it

get a branded psu (corsair is best), go for the 6100, gigabyte motherboard, and see if that comes with windows.

building that should be about the same but you could pick your own case and all and it may be less, idk though, that one seems pretty cheap

It's CyberPowerPC. Forgot to mention it's $642 with ultra care packaging and expert wiring, for what it's worth.

I could do the 6100, but I'm not a fan of all those cores. I play a lot of old games that don't effectively use all the cores, so less is best in my case.

I probably will buy a branded PSU separately.

As for the motherboard, you suggest switching to - [CrossFireX] GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 AMD 970 Chipset Socket AM3+ ATX Mainboard w/ Touch Bios, Ultra Durable 2, On/Off Charge, 7.1 Audio, GbLAN, USB3.0, SATA-III RAID, 2 Gen2 PCIe X16, 3 PCIe X1 & 2 PCI (Pro OC Certified) - instead?

I have a copy of Windows 7 ultimate, so I don't need it to come with an OS.

Edit: What sort of frames do you think I would get on newer games like Skyrim with this?

Really the 4100 is 2 modules that are 2 full cores and a few extra bits and pieces, and when it starts putting 2 threads on each module it looses performance.

an I3 may be better for the same price

yes on the mobo, they are better quality than ASUS

make sure your copy is a OEM or retail copy, not an upgrade.

and you'd be maxing almost everything comfortably other than maybe BF3 and uber demanding games like it

would still recommend building it yourself

Cool, thanks for your insight. I'll probably upgrade to the FX 4170, might as well. My windows isn't an upgrade copy, so I'm good on that.

Get the FX 6100 over the FX 4000 series. The thing will overclock to 4.0 to 4.2 with stock voltage and cooler.

True, but the prices will be high for a few weeks till they level out.

i saw some supposed leaked prices showing the 6300 for like 135 and 4300 for like 115 or 120 or something which isn't much more than the current prices, doubt they'll drop 10 if that's true

:o You mean with the PSU and cooling I posted?

I've never looked into overclocking; can't be too hard I imagine?

I'll probably do that though. I just realized there's a free upgrade mega sale blah blah going on, so it's at no extra cost (it'd actually cost less than going with the 4170, go figure.)

well with the water cooler you posted (how much extra is it?) you can hit 5GHz probably with good temps, and since the 6300 next week is supposed to be more power efficient it would run cooler and go further most likely.

The water cooler is standard, I guess. It's the cheapest option.

EDIT: Quick google search tells me OC'ing is basically balancing GHz & the cores
wattage with temps.

Just wondering if there are any starting/standard OC settings for this particular chip .. like good core wattage/multipliers to start from, then fine tune from there.

Yoyo, so I got the new AMD FX 4300 3.8 ghz quad-core, just wondering how much you guys suppose I can OC it to with provided cpu/cooling. I didn't get the higher cores because as I stated earlier, I play games that don't handle multi-cores efficiently, so I wanted to get less.

If you've only got the stock cooler, I wouldn't recommend overclocking with it really. I'd go and grab some sort of aftermarket cooling. The Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 can be had cheaply and should be fine. You'd hit 4.2-4.5GHz with that cooler.
