Good Deal?

Okay, so I had a thread here (long, looong time ago) about getting a new computer. I decided on a desktop because I desperatly need to use my Laptop JUST as a laptop and not my entire life before the stupid Acer fries itself by running too hot.

I went to a local store and told them I was in the market for a gaming computer (not UBER ANNIHILATER gaming but just a little over good) and they gave me some brochure things to look at.

I compared the specs on the brochures to what people reccomended for me here and chose the parts I believe I need for my purpose:

It automatically comes with:

nVidia GeForce 8600GT etc. which I upgraded to 8800GT 512 mb PCI-E Video
DVD-RW Drive
10/100/1000 LAN
Internal Card Reader
2.1 Sub Speakers
NOD32 Anti-Virus (Anti Spyware)
Windows Vista Home Premium (Which they offer to 'upgrade' to XP Pro. I'm not certain if I should do this but damn, it's tempting no matter the extra cost...)
4GB DDR 2 SDRAM
5.1 3D Sound (Which is sooooo awesome)
500GB 7200rpm HDD
Wireless Keyboard
Wireless Optical Scroll Mouse
Open Office Suite (free)
One Year Warranty
and a 19inch Flat Panel LCD Monitor

Now, you can upgrade to a 22inch monitor but I'm not certain if it's worth the cost since I'm pretty sure it wouldn't 'heighten' my Sims 2 gaming experience...
I can also get an extension to a 3 year depot warranty but it's really expensive and money is tight.
It also comes with the option to remove the 19inch monitor which lowers the cost a lot but I'm pretty sure monitors like that don't come cheap...

Anywho, the price: (In Canadian by the way...)

$1,384 including the fanceh video card
and $1,449 with the 'upgrade' to XP (And the video card)

Is it worth it?

Well ... we don't know what the mother board and CPU are so...

Whoops.. I was so busy copying the other stuff I forgot the most important!
I chose a:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (I think it's the CPU... I don't know what the motherboard would be...)

Sounds okay lol, but i'm sure someone on here could find you better lol.

That would be really cool. The main problem is shipping costs considering Imma in Canada as shipping tends to be more than the freaking item itself. But if someone could find something even better for less... well, they'd get a cookie... a nice.. uh, train shaped sugarcookie.

Depends where you order from though.
Me i'm buying all local , and i'm in Canada too (AB to be exact).
So if you live in western canada NCIX will tend to be cheaper in terms of shipping.

I'm in BC. Huh.. I wasn't aware you had a choice for shipping! Usually I get to the shipping part of the order and they have things to choose from... I always choose the cheapest.

That isn't too bad. I would keep vista. With that processor & 4 gigs of ram you shouldn't see any problems.

I hope so. I mean, Vista has prety few problems on my laptop but it does have some nasty bugs (Which only got worse after updating). Hopefully more power means less issues :)

I figured it was a pretty okay deal. I'm in Canada, live in a relatively medium size town, and there's literally no other computer store that offers anything close. My situation does not invite pickiness >.<

Well just like in every "is this PC good" thread, I'm going to have recommended building your own. Its really easy, and there are plenty of tutorials online, besides you absolutely cannot beat newegg and tigerdirect prices.

I'm certainly looking into it. Unfortunately, I can't shop Newegg because they don't ship to Canada. The main thing I would be worried about is my 'building' skillz are virtually nonexistent and the last time I had to put something together on my own it took me five hours and I kept screwing the walls on backwards (three times for each wall before I got it). I'm not so hot with that stuff :)
