friend is selling me this pc for 300 bucks.

intel core i7 2600 3.4 ghz
8 gigs of ram
geforce gtx 550 Ti
1 tb hard drive
asus hdmi 24 inch monitor

If he is selling it for 300 USD to you, then you should be arrested for taking advantage of him. The computer is worth a lot more than that. The processor itself is a $250 dollar piece.

Just make sure it has a good power supply.

he says he cant install the graphics card correctly. he says he doesnt know how to do something with the chipset and the bios? lol. it still works...hes just using the motherboard graphics card at the moment. thats all i got out of it. im still going to buy it. ill give an update with some more info later.

When you get it, reset the BIOS and then install the graphics card and ensure the power supply is proper to run the card and a reliable brand, and you should be good. The BIOS will run it. The chipset has little to do with it. The PCM is on the processor and controls PCIe usage.

Even with a bad power supply, replace it with a $90 unit and you got a cheap, awesome machine.

But first, make sure its enough to run that graphics card.

that should be fine, not the best in the world but more than adequate and of good quality. He probably just couldn't get the drivers correct, you need to uninstall them and do a driver sweep, than turn the machine of and install the graphics card, then boot and install the correct drivers and done, i didn't do that and had big problems for a little while

oh and when I try install the driver from the website I get the error: NVIDIA Installer cannot continue. This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

Yeah id dp that, there should be a jumper with a reset_cmos label on the board, you just move it then hit power, wait a sec, turn off and move it back, then boot. Otherwise you unplug the comp, pull out the small round battery on the board, hit power a few times and leave it for a few mins to drain the juice, then put it in and boot it.

is clearing the CMOS and resetting the BIOS the same thing? because thats what I did and its still not recognizing my graphics card

well i cant get the card to work on either of my pc's. i cant test my old graphics card on my new pc because it requires 2 6pin power cords and the psu in my new pc only has one for some reason. so im pretty much stuck. I dont know what to do now

what exact motherboard is it? And what PSU? Case? Brand and speed of HDD? Brand and speed of RAM?

Those all affect the price of it.

Asus P8Z68-V-Pro mainboard - looks around $200
Cooler master 600w rs-600-amba-d3 psu - $90
Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM - $100
2x Gskill ripjaws 4gb ram - $60
cm storm case - $80
